Nitric Oxide testing is one of the many tests we perform at our office. Nitric Oxide is crucial for optimum health. We screen for Nitric Oxide levels by using a saliva test strip. Nitric Oxide is a molecule that our body produces to help its 50 trillion cells communicate with one another by transmitting signals throughout the body. It helps the body by supporting healthy blood pressure levels, normal and healthy circulation, arterial function, and promoting artery dilation for healthy blood flow.
How do you increase your Nitric Oxide levels?
- Exercise – when the heart pumps with more pressure to supply the muscles with blood, the lining in your arteries release nitric oxide.
- Healthy Diet- ingesting amino acids such as Arginine, which is found in nuts, fruit, and meat, helps create nitric oxide inside our cells. Garlic, soy, dark leafy greens, beets, Vitamins C and E, and Co-Q10 also allow our bodies to produce more nitric oxide.
- For athletes and bodybuilders- taking supplements such as L-arginine and L-citrulline may help to increase nitric oxide levels as well as support blood flow and oxygen to the skeletal muscles.
Our supplement recommendation is 1 tsp of powdered super greens and 2tsp of beet powder. (These organic products are available at our office).
Fun Fact: Robert F. Furchgott, Louis J. Ignarro, and Dr. Ferid Murad. Furchgott, 82, is a pharmacologist at the State University of New York Health Science Center at Brooklyn; Ignarro, 57, at the University of California at Los Angeles; and Murad, 62, at the University of Texas Medical School in Houston won the Nobel Prize in medicine in 1998 for discovering that the body uses nitric oxide gas to make blood vessels relax and widen - a finding that helped lead to Viagra and could also pay off in treatments for heart disease.
